What is a Mid Week Short Break?

Mid week short breaks are usually 4 night short breaks that run from Monday through to Friday morning. 3 night short breaks may also be possible. Mid week short breaks are more likely to be available in low season, outside school holidays, although it's always worth checking first. There has always been a good choice of cottages in holiday cottage complexes and owners have always run them in a similar fashion to hotels. The demand for short breaks has risen over the last few years as many people prefer them to longer holidays.

Self-catering holidays are especially popular with families with young children who need the extra space for the children to be able to run around safely and with dog owners who want to take their dog(s) on holiday with them. The two week family break may still apply to many summer family holidays but as more people discover the pleasure and money saving that self-catering brings, many more opt for that short break. If you're staying in self-catering accommodation, entry to your cottage or house is usually after 4 pm. Cottage owners will provide you with details of arrival and departure times - it's very similar to checking into and out of a hotel except that you have an entire self-contained holiday accommodation at your disposal.

Couples, both working couples and retired couples treat themselves to cottage breaks.  A holiday cottage provides that comfort with privacy that couples desire. A good night's sleep is pre-requisite on holidays and not something that can be relied upon in all forms of holiday accommodation.

There are also many small one bedroom cottages that sleep just two people and are perfect for couples.
